Today was CarFree Day in Vancouver’s west end. Car Free Day is an annual volunteer run event where busy streets are closed to promote active transportation, sustainability and public spaces. Booths or stands are set-up by businesses selling goods and food. There are live singers and dancers and artists. There is a play zone for children. It’s a lively event similar to a block party. I felt a sense of community walking through seeing people from the neighborhood and businesses in the area having booths set up. It’s great for people watching and it’s something to do on father’s day weekend. Car Free Day on Main Street is scheduled for tomorrow.
