Tutto Restaurant and Bar

Over the holidays, two of my girlfriends and I met up for our annual holiday dinner.  This year we chose to go to Tutto in Yaletown.

The restaurant is fancy and elegant.  We were seated in the far corner and I felt it was very private.  Definitely would be perfect for a romantic evening.

My friends and I ordered the same thing across the board – the pappardelle with beef short rib and porcini brown butter.  Amazing!  So good!  Each of us polished off our plates.  We also all got the tiramisu for dinner and it was impeccable.  The whole meal was wonderful and it was a lovely atmosphere to drink some wine, have some delicious food with some great company.  I’m looking forward to going back with my husband and exploring more of the menu.

Nelli Cafe

When I was in Montreal, my friends and I randomly stumbled upon Nelli Cafe for brunch.

This place is so cute!  Reminds me of Romeo and Juliet – balconies, moss, brick walls, large plants – just adorable!

My friends ordered some lattes to drink.  They came out with cute latte art.  For their meals, they ordered the classic breakfast and the bacon and gruyere benedict and they were both very happy.

I ordered their spicy chicken sandwich and let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious – crispy coating on the generous chicken and melted Monterey jack cheese.  Oooh so good!  My mouth is watering as I write this.  It was so good that we went back the next day (we loved this place!) and I ordered the sandwich again.  One of my friends followed suit and got one also.  She loved it as well.

If you’re visiting Montreal, this a spot you will love!

YVR Cookie – Dunka Cookie and Chocolate Chunk Walnut

January 19, 2022 By therdizzle in Eateries Tags: Dunka Cookies, Dunkaroos, YVR Cookie

I found my new favorite cookie in the world – the Dunka Cookie!  To all you 90s kids, be prepared to be filled with sweet, sweet nostalgia.  Remember those delicious vanilla dunkaroos from your childhood?  Well, YVR cookie managed to recreate all that flavor in a massive, delectable cookie!

The Dunka Cookie is loaded with salted caramel chipits, vanilla cupcake goldfish crackers and stuffed with funfetti frosting.  Soooo good!  I literally am blown away each time YVR Cookie comes out with flavor, but for me this one is on another level.  It is for sure my favorite – it’s fun, unique and delicious!

I also tried out YVR Cookie’s Chocolate Chunk Walnut cookies.  Everyone in the world loves chocolate chip cookies, and when you have cookie geniuses like YVR Cookie make them, you know it’s going to be unbelievably good.  They’ve added the addition of chopped walnuts and you get a bit of that nutty crunch in every bite.  Really yummy!  You’ll love them.

As usual, YVR Cookie hits it out of the park.  A company I stand behind because they always leave me wanting more!

The Candy Room

Easily the most fun store on Robson Street, the Candy Room is a feast for the eyes.  I can’t help but feel like a kid in a candy store every single time I’m there.  There are walls and walls of deliciousness!

They carry every candy and chocolate you can think of.  They actually have the largest selection in B.C.  There’s a huge array of unique snacks and candies that are hard to find.  I’ve been coming here for years and each time it’s just a treat.  We love filling up a goodie bag with bulk candies (over 400 kinds!) to munch on during our movie nights or picking up my fave from the 90s, dunkaroos!  My hubby loves getting stocked up on his Payday bars, purchasing a few at a time to keep in our cupboards for when the craving hits.  I make a point to bring my niece and nephew each time they’re visiting so they can try what’s new in store.  My sister buys boxes of the tamarind candies that she loves and can’t find anywhere else.  They have all of the nostalgic candy from your childhood, every kind of Reece peanut butter chocolate, all of the yummy cereals, nerds varieties, Bob Ross candies and the list goes on forever.

This store has been a community favorite since it opened 6 years ago.  It’s a small, family owned business.  They are super friendly and helpful which makes it all the more easy to support a small business like this.

Imagine Picasso: The Exhibition

January 6, 2022 By therdizzle in Events and Exhibits Tags: art gallery, art show, immersive art exhibit, Picasso, vancouver, yvr

I recently had a chance to check out the Picasso immersive art exhibit at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Seeing the larger than life art pieces projected all around and from all angles had me in awe.  If you had a chance to see Imagine Van Gogh, this is very similar.  The biggest difference was that some of Picasso’s art was also projected onto cube or triangular structures.  The loop runs for about 33 minutes and is set to beautiful music.  Truly magical.

The cool thing about Picasso’s art is that it changes so much through stages of his life.  He dabbles in everything from Cubism to Neo-classical with over 50,000 works of art in his lifetime.  Absolutely breathtaking!

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition

January 4, 2022 By therdizzle in Events and Exhibits Tags: art, Art Exhibits Vancouver, Michelangelo, Sistine Chapel

The hubby and I went on a date night over to the Vancouver Convention Centre to the Michelangelo art exhibit.

When we arrived, we were told at the entrance that the ceiling art was replicated into life size pieces and put in the same order as they were in the Sistine Chapel.  It was quite extraordinary to be face to face with each painting and see all of the detail.

Michelangelo used his paintings to tell a story at a time when there weren’t comic books or movies.  He told the stories from the bible and it was quite wonderful to see his vision.

It was interesting that some of the pieces were very peaceful and including depictions of God and then on the other end of the spectrum some of them were very grim.

If you’re someone who has been to the recent immersive shows like Van Gogh and Picasso at the Vancouver Convention Centre, this show is more of a gallery layout and is not immersive.  If you are an art lover, it is a great one to check out.

DaDeO

January 2, 2022 By therdizzle in Eateries, Edmonton, Travel Tags: Dadeo, Diner, Edmonton

Recently my husband and I flew out to Edmonton for a few days.  He was working at his Edmonton office, so I was able to explore a bit of the city on my own.  After taking a look online, I decided to visit DaDeO. Everything about it sounded amazing – New Orleans menu and a funky, retro diner.

It was a weekday afternoon when I visited.  The restaurant was at about a bit more than half capacity.  I imagine it gets packed for dinner service.  I was seated in a center booth.  Love, love, love the decor so much!  There’s so much to look at and it all takes you back in time to the 50s.  There’s a juke box on every table, photographs of jazz musicians, and tons of other diner paraphernalia on the walls.  I was pretty excited to be there.

I noticed online that there was a lunch special where you could get half a po’ boy with salad or soup for $12.  It wasn’t on the menu, so I requested it.  I got the fried tiger shrimp po’ boy with a caesar salad.  While I was waiting, they brought me out a biscuit with a sweet jam.  It was good.  I didn’t need to wait very long for my food to come out.  The shrimp was amazing!  Crisp and crunchy and absolutely delicious.  I do wish the bun was a bit softer, but it was pretty friggin good either way.  I would recommend going with a full po’boy over the half.  I was hitting up a bunch of different spots so it was perfect if you’re wanting to go a bit lighter, but that shrimp will leave you wanting more.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find the staff to be overly friendly or approachable.  I felt a bit like I was being irritating when I asked about the special that wasn’t on the menu.  It prevented me from asking what the sweet jam was that was brought out with the biscuit.  I always like to get extra info so I can include it in these posts, but it didn’t feel like my questions would have been well received.  I could have been misreading it, but that’s just how I felt.

Another interesting point was that I felt a bit awkward taking photographs here.  It’s a place that’s made for Instagram – so fun!  I felt like I was sticking out like a sore thumb taking my photos and videos though.  I also had another friendly patron come and ask me if I was a blogger.  Made me wonder if perhaps people in Edmonton don’t do the videos and photos at restaurants as much as we do in Vancouver?  No one really notices here in Vancouver because every one else is doing it too.

Overall, I think this is a must see in Edmonton.  Super funky and delicious food.

Reflections – The Winter Terrace

December 14, 2021 By therdizzle in Eateries Tags: Christmas spirit, Reflections, vancouver, Winter Terrace

A girlfriend and I went to check out Reflections Winter Terrace and ooh wee, is it ever pretty!  Every inch of this place screams Christmas in the most elegant, classy way.  It is a cozy, winter wonderland.  The decor is gorgeous.

It is outside, but they have the prettiest furry blankets on the chairs and many heating lamps to help keep you warm.

They have quite a selection of holiday drinks.  I tried the christmas mule and the pointsetta.  They came out looking super festive and they were both sooo good – great quality cocktails!

My friend and I decided to share a couple dishes.  We went with the crispy cauliflower and the mushroom and squash pizza.  My friend had read some mixed reviews, but our experience was a lovely one.  The food was absolutely delicious.

I will say that the cost was on the higher side.  We paid about $100 each for two cocktails and two shared plates.  We didn’t mind though, we realize that we were paying for ambience and experience and we were totally fine with that.  Love that Vancouver has this gem to help get us in the holiday spirit.  Highly recommend!

Tacomio – Crispy Queso Baked Potatoes

December 5, 2021 By therdizzle in Eateries Tags: loaded baked potato, mexican food, tacomio, vancouver

g7e9qjTQ

Tacomio launched their version of the loaded baked potato.  It’s a whole baked potato, with crispy queso, your choice of filling (you can choose between beef, 3 kinds of chicken, pork, or 3 plant based options), red onions, cilantro and jalapenos.  It comes with salsa and sour cream.

So as you all know, I’m a huge fan of Tacomio.  However, I am pretty indifferent when it comes to baked potatoes.  I think they’re generally good, but they’re also something I could do without, so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this dish.  Well, I should have known that Tacomio would find something I was neutral about and make it so amazing! I looooooved it so, so much!

We tried one chicken (pollo asado) and one beef (salpicon).  First thing we noticed is how massive these are!  They are so generous with the servings.  When I think of a baked potato, I think of it as a side.  This is a full meal deal.  That crispy cheese queso part on top of the potato is everything!  Crispy, chewy, cheesy – mmm! My mouth is watering while I’m writing this.  It is definitely loaded with toppings.  Their protein options are so tasty – absolutely saturated with flavor!  Each bite was heavenly!

I did struggle a bit getting good photos for you guys, but hopefully these ones do it justice.  Head over to my Instagram (@getsprinkled) if you haven’t already to check out my reel so you can see it in video form for a better idea if needed.

We ordered other items off the menu as well, so we had some left overs.  I got to have more for lunch the next day and it heated up in the microwave well.  Just as delicious as the day we ordered it.  This is something I will be getting again!

I love that Tacomio keeps hitting us with these amazing, creative creations!  This is my spot that I have take-out from the most and its awesome that there are so many different menu options that are unbelievably good.  My orders are always rotating and all of it is delicious!

A little side note – I also wanted to share that I recently discovered that you can purchase Tacomio’s salsas by the bottle!  I bought my first bottle and spent the week eating it with everything.  I treat it more like a hot sauce.  I was told that you can even use it to marinate meats.  I actually finished my first bottle within the first week because I seriously ate it every single day.  I just ordered my second bottle from Uber Eats yesterday.

YVR Cookie released their newest cookie – Red Velvet Brownie!  It’s red velvet cookie dough loaded with milk and white chocolate chips and stuffed with an addictive two-bit brownie.  Mmm, thinking of it makes my mouth water.

I love how creative YVR Cookie is with their flavors!  This is a new favorite for me.  Chewy, Ooey, Gooey and Delicious!

This is the best cookie company in Vancouver and if you haven’t put in an order yet, it’s time!  Use the code “getsprinkled10” for 10% of your order.

I’ve never met a YVR Cookie that I didn’t love.
