Well another summer has arrived.  Vancouver has opened up Sky Dine for another season.  I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for me to share my thoughts on last year’s experience with you.

Last year, Sky Dine offered several different options like brunch, lunch and dinner.  All packages offered were pricey…we’re “experience” people and I don’t mind spending the money to try something that might be incredible so we decided to go for it.  We went with the brunch package which included a 2 course meal (starter and main), 1 glass of champagne or mimosa in the lounge and another in the air, as well as brunch canapes in the lounge.

Our start time was 9:30 a.m. and we were asked to arrive by 8:45 a.m.  That’s quite early for us, but not long after we arrived the morning grumpiness turned to excitement.  Sky Dine was located in North Vancouver’s Creek Marina and Boatyard.  We were greeted at the entrance and taken to this cutely decorated lounge area for a couple welcome drinks.  In hindsight, I realize that our package also called for brunch canapes and we weren’t offered any.  To be quite honest, we were so excited that at the time we didn’t even notice.  It was the most beautiful day.  We took some time to take photos, take in the day and cheers each other.  Soon enough an announcement went on to remind us to use the restroom as we would be boarding soon.   Whenever I tell people this is something we did, the number one question I get is “What if you have to go to the bathroom?”  They make the announcement for you to go beforehand.  When you’re up in the air you don’t even think about it because you’re just taking in the incredible experience.

We went over to the crane and we were strapped in.  After a quick introduction from the team, the crane was ready for lift off.  We started lifting and it was awesome.  The views are simply stunning.  Once up in the sky, the crane rotates slowly so you catch the view from every side.  It was completely surreal.  One of the staff members was in charge of the music for our experience and his playlist was perfect for a beautiful, sunny day taking in gorgeous views, sipping on refreshing summer sips and eating some delicious food.  Our chef was Vancouver Executive Chef, Evan Elman.  He prepared a fresh berry smoothie as a starter.  For our main, I had chicken and waffles and Chris had the crab-cake benny.  Both meals were soo yum!  One thing to be aware of is that the meal may not be piping hot being up there in the sky.

The vibe up there is just awesome.  The seats all have controllers on the side and you can push the seats all the way back so you can lay out while you’re in the sky and relax.  They even had us do their version of the wave to Fat Joe’s song “Lean Back” when they started in one corner and had each seat pull their levers to push their seats down one by one.  It was just an all around great experience that I will never forget.  We both had such a wonderful time.  I know it’s expensive, but for us it was worth the experience.  It’s been a year and we’ve thought back and talked about our experience so many times.  It was very cool.
